Esch – European Capital of Culture

Yesterday, I went to Esch-sur-Alzette, a city of 36.000 inhabitants in Luxembourg, that along with Kaunas and Novi Sad is one of the three Capitals of European Culture 2022. Sadly, it was a very gray and dull day. On the other hand, in a way it fit pretty well with this industrial steel and mining town that underwent a severe structural change in the past decades.

The images shown here were taken on Fuji Instax film with a Lomo camera.

Of course, I took lots of other images with my usual Sony equipment, too.

Geese on a meadow in Oberursel near Frankfurt, Oct.5. St. Martin’s day on 11th November is the day when Martin of Tours is remembered, a saint of the Catholic Church. Eating a St. Martin’s goose dinner is a widely spread tradition in Germany. Thus it is quite unlikely that the geese in this picture will survive the next week.

Hoffmann, who among many other things promoted independent cultural groups and initiated the Frankfurt museum embankment, will turn 90 in August.
