Esch – European Capital of Culture

Yesterday, I went to Esch-sur-Alzette, a city of 36.000 inhabitants in Luxembourg, that along with Kaunas and Novi Sad is one of the three Capitals of European Culture 2022. Sadly, it was a very gray and dull day. On the other hand, in a way it fit pretty well with this industrial steel and mining town that underwent a severe structural change in the past decades.

The images shown here were taken on Fuji Instax film with a Lomo camera.

Of course, I took lots of other images with my usual Sony equipment, too.

What may look like a very remotely located beer festival on a gray day actually is a very remotely located beer festival on a gray day on Walberla mountain about halfway between Bamberg and Nuremberg in Franconia, Bavaria, May 03. The ‘Walberlafest’ can be traced back to 9th century May celebrations on this site with its stunning view (and its strange name) that was already populated in the Bronze Age.
