The Old Opera House

Frankfurt’s Alte Oper (Old Opera House), built between 1873 and 1880, is seen from above on a gray and hazy day, Feb.12. In 1937, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana was performed here for the first time. The building was almost completely destroyed by allied bombs in 1944. In the 1970s it was slowly rebuilt and eventually reopened in 1981. Alte Oper is now a concert hall.

Old Concrete

A bridge spans over a footpath at a park in Offenbach, just east of Frankfurt, Nov.10. It is one of the two oldest concrete structures without steel armouring in Germany still standing today. Together with a small temple (seen in background) it was erected in 1879.

Old Door

Old Door

An old door of a deserted house in the town of Agulo, La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain, March 19. The wall, though, was renovated only recently. Still, quite a lot of houses in the smaller towns of la Gomera seem to be abandoned.
