Travelling Journeymen

Travelling Journeymen

Three carpenter journeymen in their typical outfit including topper, bundle and hiking pole, walk along a street in the town of Marburg, some 90 kms (52 mls) north of Frankfurt, Dec.19. The tradition of travelling carpenters dates back to medieval times and is still alive, although rarely, in Germany and in France (I believe). It includes travel for at least three years after completing apprenticeship as a craftsman.
