Two women stand beside the sulfuric vapor of the Kochbrunnen fountain in downtown Wiesbaden, a city some 40 kms (24 mls) west of Frankfurt and capital of the federal state of Hessen. The spa town of Wiesbaden (translating into “meadow baths”) was practically built upon dozens of thermal springs that were already known to the Romans. It is said that they even built recreation pools for Roman army horses here…
